Rachael Keehn Appointed City Clerk

Carbondale, Illinois - At its regular meeting on December 21, 2010, the Carbondale City Council approved the appointment of Rachael Keehn as City Clerk, effective February 18, 2011.

Janet M. Vaught, the current City Clerk, announced her retirement several months ago, to be effective February 18, 2011. The appointment of a replacement at this time will allow for a smooth transition in the office.

"I think Rachael Keehn will do an outstanding job for the City of Carbondale," said Mayor Brad Cole. "Her interest in municipal government is obvious and her legal education will be quite beneficial in performing the work of the City Clerk."

Ms. Keehn is a native of Carterville, Illinois and has a bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and a Juris Doctor from the SIU School of Law. She will begin her employment with the City on January 3, 2011, as an assistant in the Clerk's office. The City Clerk is appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the City Council.
