[ARCHIVED] Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon Investigation

 On 07-08-2020, at approximately 11:58 p.m., City of Carbondale Police Officers responded to the 200 block of East Larch Street in reference to a report of shots fired.   The investigation revealed a vehicle and residence were struck by multiple bullets.  There were no reported injuries as a result of the incident.  

On 07-09-2020, at approximately 1:55 a.m., officers responded to the 1000 block of North Robert A. Stalls in reference to a report of shots fired.   The investigation indicated a vehicle was struck by multiple bullets.  There were no reported injuries as a result of the incident.  

At this stage of both investigations, the incidents appear to be related to one another regarding an ongoing dispute amongst acquaintances.  There is not any suspect information to provide at this time.

While responding to the report of shots fired in the 1000 block of North Robert A. Stalls at approximately 1:55 a.m., officers observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed away from the scene of the shooting.  The driver then disregarded a traffic control device in an attempt to flee from the area.  Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and during the course of the investigation arrested the driver, Ferontay D. Johnson, age 20 of Marion, for Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapon and Obstructing Justice.  The active investigation is ongoing regarding the connection between Johnson and the original shots fired call.  Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the police department at 618-457-3200. Johnson, Ferontay
