In a local observance of Earth Day 2005, Carbondale Mayor Brad Cole dedicated the green space area located at the northeast corner of the downtown Mill Street Underpass intersection as “Friendship Plaza”.
The City of Carbondale has always enjoyed positive relationships with friends around the world. Many of those friendships have developed into formal city-to-city exchanges through Sister Cities International. Carbondale currently has three official Sister Cities. Our official connections are with Shimla, India, Tainai City, Japan and Tainan City, Taiwan.
