NOTICE OF ROAD CLOSURE - REED STATION ROAD
FROM NUTRITION HEADQUARTERS ENTRANCE TO EAST BUSINESS DRIVE (GATOR TIRE)

Reed Station Road will be closed to all traffic from Nutrition Headquarters to East Business Drive (Gator Tire). This closure is scheduled to begin at 7:00 a.m. on Thursday September 9, 2010, and will be in effect for approximately one week depending on the weather. All access to the businesses north of the closure will be from Illinois Route 13. All access to the businesses south of the closure will be from Old Route 13 (Walnut Street). This includes Gator Tire, Quick Signs and Southern Illinois Wireless.

City of Carbondale to Host Refuse and Recycling Workshop September 14, 2010

The City of Carbondale will host a workshop on refuse and recycling that will emphasize the City’s recycling programs. Discussion will focus on the curbside recycling, drop-off recycling, and landscape/special waste collection programs. City staff will explain the importance of these programs and what residents must do to participate.

Information and games will be a part of this fun and interactive educational opportunity. The event will be held at the Carbondale Civic Center on September 14, 2010 from 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. in Room 108. The event is free and open to the public. New residents and those with recycling questions are especially encouraged to attend.

Human Relations Commission to Sponsor Seminar on Non-Violent Communication

On Monday, September 13, at 6:30 p.m., the Carbondale Human Relations Commission will offer an introduction to non-violent communication entitled “Using Non-Violent Communication for Building Community.” The session will be held in Room 103 of the Carbondale Civic Center and the public is invited. Especially encouraged to attend are those with public, business, civic, religious, and non-profit groups working with programs for community betterment.

Presenter at this session will be Derrick Williams, Ph.D., of the SIUC Student Health Service's Wellness Center. Williams is an experienced presenter with community groups and has initiated local programs focused on male mentoring.

There is no cost for this session; refreshments will be served.

Jackson County State’s Attorney Michael Wepsiec, Carbondale Chief of Police Jody O’Guinn, Jackson County Sheriff Robert Burns, CCHS District 165 Superintendent Steve Sabens and other agency leaders will join Presiding Judge William Schwartz at Carbondale Community High School to announce the formation of the CCHS Education and Safety Panel. Reed Station Road will be closed to all traffic from the Neon Internet driveway to Southern Illinois Piping Contractor’s driveway. This closure is scheduled to begin at 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 25th, and will be in effect for two to three weeks depending on the weather. All access to the businesses north of the closure will be from Illinois Route 13. All access to the businesses south of the closure will be from Old Route 13 (Walnut Street).

Reed Station Road will be closed to all traffic from the first driveway north of Old Route 13 (Walnut Street) to Neon Internet’s Driveway. This closure is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 19th and will be in effect for one to two days depending on the weather. All access to the businesses north of the closure will be from Illinois Route 13. All access to the businesses south of the closure will be from Old Route 13 (Walnut Street).

CITY OF CARBONDALE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL ELECTION PETITION PACKETS AVAILABLE BEGINNING AUGUST 24TH

In April 2011, the City of Carbondale will hold an election to select a Mayor and three City Council Members for four-year terms. Information and petition forms will be available in the City Clerk’s Office beginning on August 24, 2010.

This election is for the Mayor’s seat presently held by Mayor Brad Cole and for the City Council seats presently held by Council Members Steven Haynes, Lance Jack and Mary Pohlmann. The seats of City Council Members Corene McDaniel, Chris Wissmann and Joel Fritzler expire in 2013.

Signed nominating petitions must be submitted to the City Clerk's Office during the statutory filing period of Monday, November 15, through Monday, November 22, 2010.

If five or more candidates file for the position of Mayor and/or thirteen or more candidates file for the three City Council positions, a primary election will be held on Tuesday, February 22, 2011. The General Election will be held on April 5, 2011. The Mayor and new City Council members will take office on May 3, 2011.

The City Clerk's Office is located in Room 165 of City Hall, 200 S. Illinois Avenue. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Fire Hydrant Re-Test

We will begin our hydrant revisit testing on Monday, August 16th. We will be running three crews from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. One crew will test hydrants on the east side and two crews will test on the west side of the railroad tracks. The revisits will consist of any hydrants (City-wide) that had a twenty-five percent deviation from the past flow testing report as well as any hydrants missed or not testable at the time. There are a total of thirty-six hydrants and testing is anticipated to be completed in a couple of days.

Notice of Street Closing on South Glenview Drive
(Between West Freeman Street and West Taylor Drive)
Wednesday August 4, 2010 and Thursday August 5, 2010

South Glenview Drive between West Freeman Street and West Taylor Drive will be closed to all traffic on Wednesday, August 4th, beginning at approximately 6:00 a.m. for street repair (weather permitting). It will remain closed until repairs are completed, or approximately 4:00 p.m. that same day. The street will close again on Thursday, August 5th, beginning at approximately 6:00 a.m. for ongoing street repair. It will remain closed until repairs are completed, or approximately 4:00 p.m. that same day. Please make arrangements to park in a driveway or on a nearby street. Plan to use alternate travel routes, as well.
